Guided La Jolla Mural Tour

Join ASA -SD chapter art enthusiasts for a walking tour of the Murals of La Jolla led by project curator Lynda Forsha. The Murals of La Jolla was conceived in 2010 as a means to enhance the civic character of the community by commissioning public art projects on private property throughout La Jolla. It is a project of the Athenaeum initiated by the La Jolla Community Foundation.

An Art Advisory Committee composed of the heads of the major visual arts organizations in La Jolla commissions artists to propose the intervention of an image on specific walls on privately owned buildings. The first two artworks by Roy McMakin and Kim MacConnel were painted directly on their sites. Subsequent artworks have been printed on vinyl and installed on billboard-like structures. Each work is on view for a minimum of two years and has been generously funded by private donations.

The tour will be approximately 75 minutes long. Immediately after we will gather at the Public House in La Jolla for drinks and light refreshments.

Associating With Appraisers And Attorneys Seminar

Three local appraisers, Cheryl Kessler, ASA, CFA, MBA who is a business appraiser, Robert Caringella, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS who is a real estate appraiser, and Richard Crockett who is a machinery and equipment (M&E) appraiser will discuss their assignments involving other appraisal disciplines. Topics will include what information each appraiser needs, when certain disciplines are called upon for different assignments, and best practices when working together.


Rodney J. Hatley, Esq. LLM, who is a local trust and estates attorney will discuss working with appraisers to value their client’s assets. He will focus on regulations and rules the appraiser needs to know, pitfalls to avoid, and current trends (such as Section 2704).


Victor Sahn, Esq. and Eric Goldberg, Esq. who are bankruptcy attorneys and Robert Dietrich, MAI, CRE, CCIM, MRICS who is an appraiser, will discuss their practice and how appraisers are involved. Topics will include the players in bankruptcy, the types of bankruptcies (and which ones matter to appraisers), and the process as it relates to valuation. Like the previous panels, the panel will also discuss pitfalls to avoid as well as other experiences.


Two family law attorneys, Lionel P. Hernholm, Jr., Esq. and David M. Zachry, Esq. will discuss their practice and using appraisers to value assets involved in a divorce. Similar to the other panels, the attorney will discuss rules and regulations to know, advice for appraisers for working in the family law sector, and pitfalls to avoid.


Lunch speaker Jacob D. Schwarz, who is a local developer, will discuss current projects in San Diego. He will relate this to the legal process in gaining approvals for projects and actually developing the project. He will also discuss their projects as it pertains to valuation.

The San Diego Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will also hold its quarterly general Chapter meeting at Marina Village on March 2, 2017. The lunch speaker (Jacob Schwarz) is part of the seminar, and seminar attendees must attend the lunch meeting in order to receive continuing education credit. The cost of the lunch (a buffet) is included in the seminar fee.


Enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis. If the event is filled, a waiting list will be retained. The San Diego Chapter reserves the rights to cancel, limit, or reschedule this event if the minimum enrollment level is not reached, and to change faculty assignments and facility locations at any time.

This program was developed and organized by the San Diego Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers with the intent of addressing topic(s) of current local interest solely for educational and informational purposes. The Appraisal Institute national organization was not involved in developing or organizing the program. Attendees are eligible to receive twenty (20) points of Appraisal Institute continuing education credit. This seminar is also approved for four hours of ASA continuing education credit and four hours of BREA continuing education credit.


Up to 15 days prior to program start date, a $25.00 cancellation fee will be applied to all requests for cancellation. Between two and 14 days prior to program start date, a $45.00 cancellation fee will be applied to all requests for cancellation. Less than two days prior to program start date, no refunds will be given.


ATTENDANCE: The Appraisal Institute enforces attendance requirements mandated by state licensing and certification regulatory agencies. One hundred percent (100%) attendance is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. This follows AQB minimum criteria requirements.
