USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) is the “Gold Standard” of appraisal practice, technique and due diligence. The Appraisal Foundation was created by Congress in 1986 to set appraisal standards for Ethics, Practice & Methodology, and report writing. USPAP is the regulation document that sets forth these standards, and is updated every two years. It is the guideline by which appraisers are judged in most federal, state and legal venues, and the IRS has included it in their “Qualified Appraisal” requirements.
This 15-hour USPAP course presents an overview of the entire USPAP 2008-2009 regulations and guidelines, and fufills the requirements of appraisal societies for designation and for USPAP continuing education. All personal property appraisers should take this course. Individuals who hire or supervise appraisers should take this course also.
The course is sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers, and will be taught by Bill Novotny, certified as a national USPAP instructor by the Appraiser Qualifications Board in Washington D.C. In 2002 he was the first personal property appraiser to attain this distinction.
There is a required exam for the course, and participants will receive a Verification of Completion for their professional Continuing Education credits. Note: This course will be taught from the perspective of personal property appraisers. Real estate appraisers are required to take a separate USPAP course taught from a real estate perspective.
We are pleased to announce that Bill Novotny, ISA AM, has agreed to teach the 15-hour USPAP course for personal property appraisers again here in San Diego, California. Mr. Novotny did an excellent job when he taught the 15-hour USPAP and the 7-hour update courses previously, both sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers.
Bill Novotny is certified as a national USPAP instructor by the Appraiser Qualifications Board. In 2002 he was the first personal property appraiser to attain this distinction. He is the author of “Launching Your Appraisal With USPAP”, a study guide provided free in electronic form to course registrants. A hard copy will be available for a small fee. Mr. Novotny has been a full-time personal property appraiser since 1993 and also owned an antique store for fifteen years. In addition to teaching USPAP, he has taught core valuation courses in appraisal theory, methods, practice and report writing.
This course will be offered at the low price of $295 for early registration, and $325 for all registrants who pay after September 1, 2009. This is a special rate offered by the ASA San Diego Chapter and will include USPAP books, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. For overnight stays, please call the Kings Inn at 619-297-2231 to reserve rooms at the special low rate of $50 per night plus tax.
The 15-hour USPAP Course focuses on the current version of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Students will receive The Appraisal Foundation’s 2008-2009 USPAP book and student manual at the course site. There is a multiple-choice exam, and a Verification of Completion will be provided.
NOTE: ALL USPAP-Certified appraisers are required to keep current with USPAP and write their appraisals according to the latest version of the Standards.
