Painting World War II is an historic first examination of paintings by California Style watercolor artists on the subject of WWII. Fifty-five paintings depicting scenes of California mobilizing for the war as well as images of the war overseas will be on view. Featured artists include Arthur Beaumont, Rex Brandt, Hardie Gramatky, Dong Kingman, Barse Miller, Phil Paradise, Charles Payzant, Ed Reep, Millard Sheets, and Milford Zornes.

Forged in the Great Depression, California Style watercolors form an important West Coast chapter of American Scene and American Regionalist art. As a group these artists examine a broad survey of everyday life in California and create memorable artistic accounts of the unfolding local history of California from 1930 through the 1970s.

Glen Knowles is a professor of art at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster and has curated seven exhibitions on the history of California Art. The Walk and Talk is $5 and free for Oceanside Museum members. For more information please visit: http://www.oma-online.org/exhibits.html.

This event is a further effort of our San Diego Chapter to meet our members requests to have more field trips and events in the north county of San Diego. Please let us know how we are doing and if you have further suggestions for our chapter. Feel free to share your thoughts with Garret Goldfield.

Garrett Goldfield, ASA
San Diego Chapter President

April 2010

We had a great meeting in April where we shared best practices on contracts and legal documents we use to protect our businesses and get paid. We continue to have terrific attendance at our meetings and we are making our chapter better all the time.

New Officer Elections

Recently our chapter sent an email with the ballot for our new officer elections. Please be sure to complete your ballot, which has been posted online. Our chapter leadership has a huge impact on our chapter and your input makes a big difference. Please be sure to vote for the candidates or write in the name of another person for consideration as an officer. Your input is critical.

Thank you,

Garrett Goldfield
